NEXBOX may block used games

According to Kotaku, IGN, and various other buzz sources, the next Xbox may implement a system to block used content.  As you may have noticed, I lean Sony.  So this gives me just one more reason to stay the way I am.  But this one raises so many issues about content purchase and who owns a game, I can’t help but wonder if Microsoft may be putting a final pistol in its own console-biz crotch with this move.

For one, IF I gamed Xbox, I would have one MAJOR concern with a virginity requirement for disc-based games: When, and I do mean WHEN my console went red-ring-up and died, my entire game library — thousands of dollars worth — would wipe along with it. No thanks. Nein danke.

Used game sales, though they don’t benefit the publisher or the platform, are also a huge backscratcher niche to institutions that DO, like Gamestop. And of course, there’s the old Napster defense (introducing someone to one product they like can stimulate sales of related products).

So what do YOU think, Xboxers?
